The Alliance for Retired Americans is a nationwide grassroots organization that advocates on behalf of America’s senior. The Alliance has more than 3 million members. Our mission is to advance public policy that protects the health and economic security of older Americans. Our goal is to educate energize and mobilize seniors to make a difference through activism.
How is the Alliance different from AARP?
The Alliance is made up of retirees and senior activists committed to grassroots activism and advancing programs and policies that benefit all older Americans. We are not competition with AARP. We believe the Alliance can be singularly effective on behalf of retired workers by focusing on the issues that most affect them.

relationship with organized labor?
The Alliance was launch by a national coalition of AFL-CIO affiliated unions and community-based organizations in 2001. We’re proud to be allied with the AFL-CIO and other sponsoring organizations that are dedicated to economic and social justice for all Americans. We support elected officials, regardless of party affiliation, who support our agenda and issues.
Why should I become a member of Alliance?

Who leads the Alliance for Retired Americans?
George J. Kourpias, former president of the National Council of Senior Citizens and president emeritus of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, is president of the Alliance. The Alliance is governed by a national executive board that includes representatives of participating unions and community-based groups.
